The Most Measured Driver Project

I have been waiting almost 30 years for this.

When I started coaching athletes, the most powerful performance system in the room was still an experienced human brain. A great coach can watch an athlete move, hear the hesitation in one sentence, remember how that athlete responded to travel six weeks ago, connect it to sleep, pain, fuel, stress, heat, and training load... then change one thing that alters the entire day.

From the outside, that looks like instinct. It is not. It is pattern recognition built through thousands of repetitions.

Mine came through more than 40,000 clinical visits, work with 12+ sports teams, and over 100 sporting events. I began using digital health devices with athletes in 2008. By 2010, I had built an integrated sports medicine facility around tracking, recovery, and performance.

Then came five years spent building in AI and digital health.

All of it kept pulling me toward one question:

What if we could teach a system to hold the whole athlete in view?

Not just heart rate. Not just last night’s sleep. Not just bloodwork, reaction time, training load, nutrition, travel, stress, pain, cognition, or the story a driver tells the coach that morning. All of it. Across time. Connected.

For most of my career, the technology could not do that. The sensors were too limited, the data lived in separate boxes, and no system could hold enough context to reproduce the layered reasoning happening inside an elite coach’s head.

Now it can. It does not replace the coach or engineer. It gives their best questions a memory and thousands more chances to find the pattern.

Honestly, I feel like a kid watching the science fiction I grew up with pull into pit lane and become real. The kid who built computers. The biochemist. The clinician. The sports medicine director. The athlete. The digital health architect. Every strange chapter of my career suddenly belongs in the same sentence. This is it!!!

Motorsport is where we prove it. No sport understands telemetry better. The car is studied down to the thousandth of a second. Yet the human in the cockpit is still scattered across wearable apps, lab reports, coaching notes, driver feedback, travel schedules, and somebody’s memory. The data exists. The model does not.

The Most Measured Driver Project is building that model.

We start at maximum sensor density on purpose. Over-measure one driver. Find signal in noise. Learn which inputs actually change decisions. Then turn that learning into something the driver can run across a full season.

Using Guild of the Wild’s 24-domain human performance framework and our PeakTwin performance intelligence system, we establish how one driver operates when they are truly at their best. Then we track how that individual changes under heat, travel, sleep loss, training load, recovery, nutrition, stress, and race pressure.

Not to produce more graphs. Racing has enough graphs.

We are building toward answers a team can use:
What state is the driver in right now?
What is changing it?
Where is performance beginning to degrade?
What has repeatedly moved this driver back toward their best?

The driver’s own history becomes the reference. The individual is the dataset. Not a population average. Not a generic score designed for millions of wrists.

For the performance staff, that creates one shared operating picture across the driver, coach, engineer, and performance team. A travel day, heat session, recovery protocol, nutrition change, or cognitive test becomes learning that compounds instead of disappearing after the weekend.

Over time, the question changes from “What usually works for drivers?” to “What has proved to work for this driver, in these conditions, before this kind of demand?” That is where the missing edge lives.

Why call it the Most Measured Driver?

Motorsport has crowned its fastest drivers for generations. It has never built its most measured one. That name sets the standard for the work ahead. More data does not automatically create speed. Most data is noise without context. The point is not to strap every sensor ever invented to a driver and admire the dashboard.

The point is to build the most deeply understood human in motorsport, then use that understanding to make better decisions under pressure.

We are telling the story as we build it. The sensors going on. The hypotheses. The surprises. The things we get wrong before we get them right. The moments when a signal actually changes what happens at the track. A driver’s private data stays private. What we share publicly is the process and the discoveries we agree are worth sharing.

This is more than a coaching program. It is a race program, a field experiment, and a story the performance world can follow as it unfolds. All built around a question people instantly understand: What happens when we measure and train the driver with the same obsession we bring to the car?

We are opening a small number of development partnerships with teams and drivers willing to answer that question under real race conditions. Not an off-the-shelf wellness package. Not another wearable partnership. Not a stack of health scores looking for a problem.

Every deployment is built around the driver, the series, the team’s existing staff, and what can actually be executed through a full season.
